What was the third most googled question in 2021?
How to be Happy Alone?
This question reveals the state of the world in 2021. But more than that, it reveals the state of ourselves and our happiness.
We are social creatures. Even those of us that are more introverted and need time alone, desire connection also.
I feel like I can give some input on solo happiness because I am often alone working from home and have been for 10 years or so.
Here’s some tips I have found that work for me to be more happy.
- Realize it is a mind set adjustment.
And it can be unsettling and uncomfortable.
That can be a good thing. Because discomfort brings change. It creates space to look at things as they are and also how they may be improved.
2. How you start the day determines the day- meditate, thank God for the day.
3. Schedule some structure – take action that feels like you are making forward progress.
4. Movement – Get outside and get exercise and fresh air, even when it is cold or unpleasant out.
5. Journal your day, feelings, aspirations and/or thoughts, whatever is going on. Recognize the state you are in and the feelings. Try not to put a judgement of good or bad on it.
6. Connect – Reach out and call someone, or go somewhere. We all need connection. When we are feeling lonely or sad, reaching out can be the hardest thing to do. Start small if necessary, go to a coffee shop or grocery store, and just be around the noise of others. Look for ways to help neighbors or become involved in a group or community.
7. Create – hands on work calms. Whatever you enjoy: write, bake, build, clean out and rearrange space, paint a room, etc.
Enjoy your space. Change your space until it is pleasing and has good energy to be in, whatever that looks like.
