Kids Going to School in Uganda?
As some of you know, for the last 7 years, we have had the pleasure of helping some kids in the poor area of Kiganda, Uganda, go to school.
I know, you are thinking schools have a lot of problems, why send kids there? And there are lots of needs that kids have right here in Oregon!
I agree with you on both counts.
We believe in supporting kids right here too!
But to go to school in Uganda inspires Hope. Hope that kids can have opportunities to work and give back to their families and communities. It means they have a future: It gives them skills. It gives them language. It gives them belonging. And it feeds them lunch. It helps the whole family.
The schools are elementary schools still focused on the skills of reading, writing and math. They are not free. Many poor families can’t afford the tuition, uniform, and supplies required to send their kids to school. There is a cycle to poverty. It often means teen pregnancy, alcohol abuse, absent fathers, many mouths to feed and the mindset of scarcity.
Schools here in the United States 50 years ago were beacons of hope and progress too. Just as they are in Uganda today.
Patrick wrote this beautiful annual report on their progress this year. joyful Annual report
Patrick is the one directly in charge of making this happen and getting the kids to school in Uganda. We send our money directly to him and 100% goes to the kids needs. We are so thankful for the growth we have seen in the children. In their music ministry and community activities as well as their efforts in school. They put their faith in Jesus and give God all the credit.
